Ridge - Lytton Springs (Dry Creek Valley)

dscn5914La mia primera fermata quel giorno era Ridge – Lytton Springs. In tutto, i vini erano bravissimo!

In inglese: Two weeks ago, I spent a day to driving to Dry Creek Valley and explore a new wine country area. Up to then, I’d been to many AVAs in California including Santa Cruz, Monterey, Paso Robles, Sonoma, Napa, and Livermore. But I’d never been north of Santa Rosa, CA. I spent two days of the four day weekend staying with friends in San Francisco, and on that Sunday, I drove north 80 miles to visit Healdsburg, CA. The weather started pretty ugly (cloudy and chilly), but by noon it was beautiful.

My first stop that day was Ridge – Lytton Springs. I’ve been to Ridge – Monte Bello in Cupertino many times, since it is my favorite winery. So I had to visit their winery in the Lytton Springs area. Overall, the wines were great. Ridge wines always taste balanced, earthy, and smooth. After chatting with Melissa, the hostess, for quite awhile she allowed me to try their 2007 Chardonnay, which was not on the list for the day. I was really surprised by their ’07 Chardonnay, since the ’05 and ’06 Chards tasted poorly. We both believe it was because of the climate in those years. The ’07 tasted like it was more mature and alive than the previous years. Though I didn’t buy the Chard, I did buy a half-bottle of their ’07 Geyserville, which is a blend of zinfandel, carignane, petite sirah, and mataro. Definitely a good buy!

I’ll save my thoughts about the other places (Michel Schlumberger, Quivara, and Kendall Jackson) I visited that day for future postings. Until then, you may visit my site called “Jarard.com – El Viajero” for my other thoughts about my day in Healdsburg, CA.

This is pretty amazing! I enjoyed reading about your adventures. You have been busy…Reading your flight blog made me think of Richard Bach, a writer pilot. He wrote “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, “Illusions”, “Running from Safety”, “One”,and a few others. I pretty much read everything he wrote because I found it so fascinating.
    You should check him out!
