In Onore di Roland Garros 2010

Da allora ero giovane, ho voluto visitare il Aperto di Francia a Parigi. Ho giocato a tennis nella scuola e mi ho potuto ricordare a guardare le professioniste come Aggasi, Sampras, Michael Chang, ed altri. Quindi, mi ho detto che queste anno, andrei a Parigi per guardare il torneo. Ma, quando cominciavo cercare per i biglietti, non potevo permirtir a me stesso di comprarli perche loro costano troppo. Invece di quello, ho deciso risparmiare il mio denaro e provare di andare a Nuova York in agosto per il Aperto di US. Beh, ironicamente, ho passato il fine di settimana passato a Chicago per visitare la mia famiglia. Quello fine di settimana era anche l’inizio del Aperto di Francia a Parigi. Dato quello, ho usato ogni tempo che ho bevuto vino per avere un sorso in onore di Francia.
Il venerdí durante la mia vacanza, ho avuto un po tempo libero dopo di passare tempo con mi madre nel centro di Chicago. Ero incontrando i miei amici per bicchierini e cena alle sette e mezzo al Signature Room (96 piani sopra la citta al John Hancock Building), e ho avuto quasi due ore prima di quello. Percio, ho andato a uno di miei posti favoriti a Chicago, il Sofitel (due strade da John Hancock e dal Magnificient Mile).
Al Sofitel, loro hanno avuto un volo di vino chiamato “Potente Rossi da Francia” (Powerful Reds from France), ed era perfetto per me dato che il Aperto di Francia era cominciando quello fine di settimana. La lista ha incluso tre vini da tre regioni in Francia:
- Parallele 45, Paul Jaboulet, Cotes du Rhone (2007)
- Lafite Reserve Special, Bordeaux (2007)
- Louis Jadot, Pinot Noir, Burgundy (2007)
Il primo non ha tanto sapore per me ma potevo sentire un po delle ciliege nere che mi ha dato il sentimento che sarebbe buono con cioccolate. Ma dato che, non mi piace cioccolate, non mi piace il primo da Cotes du Rhone. Inoltre, il vino era piu pesante che molti vini di Francia che ho assagiato. Il secondo era molto migliore e potevo sentire il sapore di fragole, una frutta che mi piace molto. Usualmente coi vini da Francia, non hanno la uva nella etichetta, allora si deve indovinare durante bevere. Nella mia mente, potevo sentire il sapore di Cabernet e Merlot, ma non potevo capire quale era. Ma quando l’ho domandare alla cameriera per vedere la bottiglia, ho confermato i miei pensieri, perche era una miscela delle due. Il ultimo vino era di un vigneto che ho assagiato molti anni fa. Era anche un buono vino per terminare la sessione. Era tanto buono che due giorni piu tardi, ho comprato una bottiglia per la mia amica, Candice, per il suo compleanno.
Per terminare il mio fine di settimana, ho andato a un ristorante chiamato “Feast” nella stessa area a Chicago il sabato. Quel notte, ho provato un Cabernet Franc chiamato Lambert “Les Terraces” (2008). Era liscio e leggero nel naso. Adesso, provo capire il sapore di Cabernet Franc perche non l’ho provato molto. Per me, ha avuto un sapore fra un Cabernet Sauvignon e Merlot, ma non ha molti tannini come la Cabernet e ha un sapore come un Merlot molto fruttoso. Insomma, ho avuto un buono fine di settimana provando i vini da Francia. Forse, il prossimo anno, posso andare a Francia per il Aperto di Francia e anche passare un po di tempo nelle regioni di vini a Francia. Fino a prossima volta…buon gusto!

Since then I was young, I wanted to visit the French Open in Paris. I played tennis in school and I remember watching the professionals like Aggasi, Sampras, Michael Chang, and others. So, I said this year I would go to Paris to for the tournament. But, when I started looking for tickets, I couldn’t allow myself to buy them because they cost too much. Instead of that, I decided to save my money and try to go to New York in August for the U.S. Open. Well, ironically, I spent the past weekend in Chicago to visit my family. That weekend was also the start of the French Open in Paris. Given that, I used every time I drank wine to have a sip in honor of France.
On Friday during my vacation, I had some free time after spending time with my mother in downtown Chicago. I was meeting my friends for drinks and dinner at half past seven in the Signature Room (96 stories above the city at the John Hancock Building), and I had almost two hours before that. So, I went to one of my favorite places in Chicago, Sofitel (two streets from John Hancock and the Magnificent Mile).
At the Sofitel, they had a flight of wine called “Powerful Reds from France” (Powerful Reds from France), and it was perfect for me since the French Open was beginning that weekend. The list included three wines from three regions in France:
- Parallel 45, Paul Jaboulet, Cotes du Rhone (2007)
- Special Reserve Lafite, Bordeaux (2007)
- Louis Jadot, Pinot Noir, Burgundy (2007)
The first didn’t have much taste for me but I was able to taste some black cherries that gave me the feeling that it would be good with chocolate. But since I do not like chocolate, I didn’t like the first one from Cotes du Rhone. Also, the wine was heavier than many french wines what I’ve tasted. The second was much better and I could taste strawberries, a fruit that I like. Usually with wines from France, they do not have the grapes on the label, so you must guess while drinking. In my mind, I could taste some Cabernet and Merlot, but I could not figure out what it was. But when I asked the waitress to see the bottle, I confirmed my thoughts, because it was a mixture of both. The last wine was from a vineyard that I have tasted many years ago. It was also a good wine to end the session. So good that two days later, I bought a bottle for my friend, Candice, for her birthday.
To end my weekend, I went to one restaurant called “Feast” in the same area in Chicago on Saturday. That night, I tried a Cabernet Franc called Lambert “Les Terraces” (2008). It was smooth and light in the nose. Now, I am trying to understand the flavor of Cabernet Franc because I have not tried it much. For me, it tasted between a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but has less tannins than Cabernet and it had a taste like a fruity Merlot. In short, I had a good weekend trying wines from France. Maybe next year I can go to France for the French Open and also spend some time in the wine regions in France. Until next time…buon gusto!
