Nuestro Viaje Segundo del Otoño

Kaitlyn y yo a Hakone Gardens.

Desde el tiempo que nos conocimos, Kaitlyn y yo hemos tomado dos viajes…los dos por avión y los dos fueron sorpresas. Dado que su horario de trabajo es un poco loco y nosotros dos tenemos horarios sociales muy ocupados, nosotros tenemos que planear fin de semanas juntos muchas semanas mas temprano. Hace casi un mes, habíamos planeado a ir a Paso Robles (para probar vino), Pismo Beach (por una tarde en la playa), y Santa Barbara (para disfrutar un poco de SoCal) el fin de semana de 22 Oct. Pero dado que nuestros horarios en Octubre eran muchísimos ocupados, esperamos tan tarde para reservar nuestros hoteles. Por el tiempo que queremos reservarlos, los precios eran tan caro (como $300/noche o mas). En vez de eso, cambiamos los planes y decidimos ir a Healdsburg para un día de vino y San Francisco por una noche en la cuidad. Pues, ella sabía sobre mucho de los planes pero no todo. Siempre tengo que quedar un poco de lo como una sorpresa.

Viernes

Fortunamente, no fuimos al sur para el viaje. Todo el fin de semana estaba lloviendo a lo largo California. Eso puso un poco "clavo" en mis planes. Yo quería llevarla a un jardín cerca de Palo Alto llamado "Filoli" pero con la lluvia y el tiempo que el lugar cierra, no podíamos ir. En vez de eso, pensé rápido y decidí (dos horas antes de el principio de nuestro viaje) llevarla a un jardín japonés se llama Hakone en Saratoga, CA. Los jardines son mejor en la primavera pero eran todavía bonito en el otoño. Caminamos, sacamos fotos, y aun vimos un jardín de bamboo (la primera vez que yo vi algo como así). Algún día me gustaría ir allá otra vez…tal vez en la primavera.

En nuestro tiempo corto juntos, Kaitlyn ha hecho unas pocas cosas conmigo por la primera vez en su vida – su primer vuelo en un avión pequeño,  su primer concierto (a Mountain Winery conmigo para ver mi cantadora favorita – Natalie Merchant), y su primera visita a un jardín japonés. Mas tarde el viernes, la llevé a disfrutar otra cosa nueva en su vida…comer tapas. Fuimos a mi lugar mas favorito por tapas en Palo Alto – Joya – para la hora de alegre. Ella le encantaron las tapas  y sangría. Irónicamente, después de eso, fuimos a un spa japonés en Palo Alto para disfrutar un jacuzzi después de una semana larga. Y así en ese día, nos disfrutamos cosas japonés y cosas españolas…nos gusta disfrutar experiencias internacionales.

Sábado

Kaitlyn es un gran compañera de viajar. Ella sabía que necesitamos estar en Healdsburg por 11:30am por nuestra cata privada y ella se levantó a las 6:30a para preparase, así que podíamos ir a las 8:30a. Ya no tenía que preguntarle. El aventón a Healdsburg era un poco largo, especialmente cuando empezó a llover. La lluvia no mas de hacer nuestro tiempo a Chateau Felice, Ridge Vineyards, y el centro de Healdsburg interesante.

Disfrutamos una cata privada a Chateau Felice con un grupo de siete mujeres. Ninguno de nosotros sabíamos que era el ultimo evento a la viñera. El Chateau había sido vendido el día antes. A pesar de eso, nuestro tiempo a Chateau Felice era memorable y nos agradezca a Samantha (nuestra anfitriona) por sus explicaciones y historias sobre su vino, su familia, la viñera, y sus pasiones. Después de eso, la llevé a Kaitlyn a Ridge Vineyards en Lytton Springs (uno de mis favoritos). Pero después de una experiencia privada al Chateau, el tiempo a Ridge se sintió frío y impersonal. No nos quedamos largo y en vez fuimos al centro de Healdsburg para almorzar. Aunque era romántico para caminar con un paraguas por las calles en la lluvia buscando por un lugar para comer, era muy mojado y frío. Terminamos a ir a Healdsburg Bar and Grill y tuve uno de los hamburguesas mas sabroso que he tenido en mi vida. 

Pienso que estábamos cansados después de caminar y manejar en tanta lluvia y un almuerzo grande, y así decidimos que no iríamos al cine en la tarde pero mas que descansar un poco a nuestro hotel en SF hasta era el tiempo para ir a cenar con mis amigos. Encontramos Marc y Christianne para la cena a "First Crush" cerca de Union Square en SF. Era la segunda vez que ellos la conocieron a Kaitlyn pero la primera vez que ellos ya podían hablar con ella. Todos disfrutamos nuestro tiempo juntos, aunque la comida eran así así. Me gustó mucho el postre y vino mas que la cena. Mas tarde esa noche, Kaitlyn y yo fuimos por una caminata alrededor de Union Square pero no podíamos encontrar un lugar para tomar. Finalmente, fuimos a "The Hidden Vine" en Hotel Fitzgerald cerca de Union Square para tomar vino. Nosotros dos nos encantaron los vinos que tomamos allá y también nos gustó mucho el ambiente del lugar. Esperamos ir allá otra vez (cuando tenemos tiempo…eso es siempre la cuestión).

Domingo

El domingo, la lluvia continuó pero no nos importaba. Fuimos a brunch con mi amigo Noah, quien que yo no había visto en un poco tiempo. Noah tuvo muchas historias para decirnos y créeme…disfrutamos mucho sus historias chistosas. Noah es un de mis personas favoritas y estoy contento que el y ella disfrutaron conocerse. Y después de otro aventón largo en lluvia dura, nuestro fin de semana terminó. Pero el aventón atrás a San José no se sintió largo porque Kaitlyn y yo estábamos hablando todo el tiempo sobre nuestras vidas, experiencias, y lecciones. En todo, tuvimos otro buen fin de semana juntos y ya tenemos ganas de viajar en nuestro próximo viaje. 🙂

En Inglés: Our Second Fall Trip

From the time we met, Kaitlyn and I have taken two trips … both by air and both were surprises. Since her work schedule is a bit crazy and we both have very busy social schedules, we have to plan weekends together many weeks earlier. Almost a month ago, we planned to go to Paso Robles (for wine tasting), Pismo Beach (for an afternoon on the beach), and Santa Barbara (to enjoy a bit of SoCal) the weekend of 22 Oct. But since our schedules in October were plenty busy, we waited too long to book our hotels. By the time we wanted book them, the prices were so expensive (like $ 300/night or more). Instead, we changed plans and decided to go to Healdsburg for a day of wine and San Francisco for a night on the town. Well, she knew about much of plans but not all. I always have to keep a bit of it as a surprise.

Friday

Fortunately, we didn’t travel south for the trip. It was raining the whole weekend throughout California. That put a little "nail" in my plans. I wanted to take her to a garden near Palo Alto called "Filoli" but with the rain and the time the place closes, we weren’t able to go. Instead, I thought quickly and decided (two hours before the beginning of our trip) take her to a garden called Hakone Japanese Garden in Saratoga, CA. The gardens are best in the spring but were still pretty in the fall. We walked, took photos, and even saw a bamboo garden (the first time I saw something like that). Someday I’d like to go there again…perhaps in the spring.

In our short time together, Kaitlyn has done a few things with me for the first time in her life – her first flight in a small plane, her first concert (at Mountain Winery to see my favorite singer – Natalie Merchant), and her first visit to a Japanese garden. Later on Friday, I took her to enjoy something another new thing in her life … eating tapas. We went to my most favorite tapas place in Palo Alto – Joya – for happy hour. She loved the tapas and sangria. Ironically, after that, we went to a Japanese spa in Palo Alto to enjoy a hot tub after a long week. And so on that day, we enjoyed Japanese things and Spanish things…we enjoy international experiences.

Saturday

Kaitlyn is a great travel companion. She knew that we needed to be in Healdsburg by 11:30 am for our private wine tasting and so she woke up at 6:30am to get ready, so we could go at 8:30am. I didn’t even have to ask. The ride to Healdsburg was a little long, especially when it started to rain. The rain just made our time a Chateau Felice, Ridge Vineyards, and the downtown Healdsburg interesting.

We enjoyed a private wine tasting at Chateau Felice with a group of seven women. None of us knew that it was the last event at the winery. The Chateau had been sold the day before. Despite this, our time at Chateau Felice was memorable and we thank Samantha (our host) for her explanations and stories about her wine, her family, the vineyard, and her passions. After that, I took Kaitlyn to Ridge Vineyards at Lytton Springs (one of my favorites). But after a private experience at the Chateau, the time Ridge felt cold and impersonal. We did not stay long and instead went to the downtown Healdsburg for lunch. Although it was romantic to walk around with an umbrella in the streets in the rain looking for a place to eat, it was very wet and cold. We ended up going to Healdsburg Bar and Grill and I had one of the tastiest burgers that I’ve had in my life.

I think we were tired after walking and driving in so much rain and a big lunch, so we decided that we would not go to the movies in the afternoon but rather rest at our hotel in SF until it was time for dinner with my friends. We met Marc and Christiane for dinner at "First Crush" near Union Square in SF. It was the second time they met Kaitlyn but the first time they could really talk to her. We all enjoyed our time together, although the food was so-so. I really enjoyed the dessert and wine more than dinner. Later that night, Kaitlyn and I went for a walk around Union Square but could not find a place to have a drink. Finally, we went to "The Hidden Vine" in Fitzgerald Hotel near Union Square to enjoy some wine. We both loved the wine there and we also really liked the atmosphere of the place. We hope to go there again (when we have time…that’s always the question).

Sunday

On Sunday, the rain continued, but it did not matter. We went to brunch with my friend Noah, who I had not seen in a short time. Noah had many stories to tell and believe me … we really enjoyed his funny stories. Noah is one of my favorite peeps and I’m happy that they both enjoyed meeting one another. And after another long ride in heavy rain, our weekend ended. But the ride back to San Jose did not feel long because Kaitlyn and I were talking the  wholetime about our lives, experiences, and lessons. In all, we had another great weekend together and we can’t wait to go on our next trip. 🙂
