No Voy a Cruzar un Mar Este Año

Crossing the Artic Circle back in 2006 after a Eurotrip.

En Inglés: I will not Cross an Ocean this Year

This year I promised myself a big gift for my thirtieth birthday – a trip to France for the French Open tennis tournament. For the past few weeks, I was looking for flights and packages to see the prices and grab a sense of the total price for my trip. Although the trip is not until May, I want to buy tickets soon before prices go up. Well, last night after buying my ticket for my trip to Guadalajara in four weeks, I decided to view prices for France again. I had been excited about a week ago when I found a flight from SFO to Paris with a stopover in Montreal (a city I wanted to go at least 5-10 years). The return would cause me to stay one night in Montreal on Saturday. That would be good, especially after a short time in the old world of France (Paris) and then the new world of French (Montreal).

But after much thought, I have decided not to go to Paris for the tournament this year. Instead of that (and spend almost $ 3000 for the whole trip), I can spend about $ 500 – $ 1000 and go to New York for the U.S. Open. In that way, I can visit my friends in Philadelphia and my family in Washington, DC, and spend one or two days in New York to watch the matches of the tournament. Honestly, my trip to Paris would have been more on tennis and less of the country. With the money I save by not going to Paris, I can use it to fly on weekends in California. And also, I can find a weekend (about 4 days) and spend it in Montreal to pick up a little French experience. In addition, I work at Stanford and every year they have a tennis tournament for women in July / August. So I’ll watch tennis at least twice this year, spend more time flying around the beautiful state of California, and have time with my people. I’m very happy with the decision. It should make for an interesting year. I look forward to continuing the rest of my year with much more flexibility.
