  • Adelaida Zinfandel – Paso Robles – 2007 – 15.9% alcol
  • Carol Shelton “Wild Things” Zinfandel – Mendocino – 2005 – 14.9% alcol

In Inglese: Last night, my friend Koffi and I went to a bar in Redwood City, CA called Savvy Cellar. In the past, I had thought about going to that bar, so when Koffi mentioned it to me earlier during this week, I thought, “perfect!” The last time we saw each other was in September at his wine party at Barterra, and after my trip to Europe and his trip to Napa for a week as an intern in a vineyard, we had many things to discuss. And since the last time I chose the wine, this time it was his turn.

At the beginning, we knew we wanted a red wine and since we chose plates of meats and bread, Cary, our waiter told us that a Zinfandel would be the best for us. Then, she also told us that there was another wine that was a blend of cabernet sauvignon, zinfandel, and something else. We tried both and even though the nose of the blend seemed better for me, the taste of Zinfandel was much better. Koffi agreed and we started with a named Adelaida Zinfandel from Paso Robles (2007).

Cary was right with her choice, then the wine was good with our selections of meat (ham, salami, chorizo) and bread with pesto. While we drank the first bottle and we talked over our trip. I was very impressed by his trip to Napa as an intern wine. Maybe one day I can spend some time during one of my travels as an intern, especially since I like wine so much.

Well, after the first bottle Koffi said, “let’s have another.” But we started with only Zinfandel in the list and it’s not good to drink other red wines Zinfandel lighter than since it’s the strongest type of wine. Then, Cary told us that there was no other Zinfandel open but we could choose a wine from the shelf. After a bit of talk about our options, we chose a bottle of Zinfandel called Carol Shelton “Wild Things” from Mendocino (2005). We thought it would be interesting to try a Zinfandel from a region more differences than Paso Robles. And surprisingly, that wine was much better than the first. That wine was smooth and balanced and we thought that perhaps the climate in Mendocino was the major reason, but also could be the year it was produced and the alcohol quanity (1 percent less than the first).

At the end of the night, we drank two bottles of wine and we enjoyed good conversation over the wine, life and the incredible connections among people, our travels, and many other fun things. And that’s how the experience with wine should be – enjoy good wine, good food, good conversation, good laughs and good times with good people. Thank you, Koffi for another good time!

Here are the wines we drank last night:

  • Adelaida Zinfandel – Paso Robles – 2007 – 15.9% alcohol
  • Carol Shelton “Wild Things” Zinfandel – Mendocino – 2005 – 14.9% alcohol
